There won’t be many more hotly anticipated bands at Rebellion this year than the Lambrini Girls.
Brighton queer punk 3 piece. With song titles like Lads Lads Lads, Help Me I’m Gay, Terf Wars and Big Dick Energy it’s pretty obvious you ain’t getting no girlie girl indie noodlings from this lot, more like a size 6 Doc Marten to the groin and a bloody good kicking to boot. They are knitted from the same pattern as Loose Articles , The Menstrual Cramps or The Red Stains.
Formed in lockdown, at her first gig fronting the band at Brighton Dome, vocalist Phoebe Lunny decided that it was the perfect time to “out” herself to her watching mother, helped out no doubt by 3 bottles of wine. History does not record if it was Lambrini.
Far too depressingly in 2023, the band have first hand experience of the problems facing females and trans people in the music industry, even in their own local scene in Brighton. Creating safe spaces for women and non-binary fans, calling out abusers wherever they encounter them, constantly challenging male behaviour at gigs. Lunny routinely introduces the song ‘Boys in the Band’, written about the depressing cycle of abusive behaviour at gig venues, with a warning message urging people to confront their friends and call them out over their behaviour if necessary.
