Hastings isn’t known for being a hotbed of musical talent, unless you include Suggs (Madness), Tom Chaplin or Jon Digweed. Kid Kapichi seem well placed to put the East Sussex seaside town firmly on the map. Having got a leg up to the top table by Frank Turner, after being asked on a major tour, the boys are now spreading their wings from the vibrant Hastings underground scene that spawned them.
By the way it’s pronounced Kapee-chee before I venture any further. Kid Kapichi are Ben Beetham (guitars, vocals), Eddie Lewis (bass), George Macdonald (drums) and Jack Wilson (vocals, guitars). After putting out their self-produced debut album This Time Next Year during lockdown in 2021, they’ve band recently signed their first proper deal and released sophomore album Here’s What You Could Have Won, which was co-produced by Dom Craik from Nothing But Thieves. These 11 new songs are an excellent showcase for the band’s bigger, punchier, ‘beat punk’ sound.
